SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN OLEH METROPOLIS VIS-A-VIS THE DYNAMIC OF GROUNDWATER TABLE LEVEL
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Solid waste is seen as the third pollutant after air and water pollution. Imagine garbage let uncollected at one corner of your home for 5 days. Imagine also that the container is uncovered can you imagine the odour that results throughout your house/ solid waste management may be defined as the application of techniques that will ensure the orderly execution of the function of collection processing and disposal of solid waste. These function are called the three basic functional element of soild waste management. Collection refers to the gathering of solid waste from places such as residence, commercial, institutional and industrial establishment and public places. Field survey revealed that best method of solid waste disposal in Oleh metropolis is composting due to the level of ground water which would not permit sanitary landfill with result to leachate production. Size of solid waste is of important in the recovery of materials experiencing with mechanical means such as trammel screens and magnetic separator. A general indication of the particle size distribution (by longest dimension and ability to pass a sieve) may be obtained from the data presented in figure 2.1 and figure 2.2. The research work was carried out through mediums of literature review of past works, textbooks and online materials e.g thesis and journals and survey questionnaire.
