MANPOWER PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT AS A TOOL FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY(A CASE STUDY OF LIFE FLOUR MILL SAPELE)

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION

This work deals with manpower planning and development as a tool for higher productivity. The research problem in this project is to investigate how manpower planning and development affect productivity, as to find out factors militating against its objectives, prospects, related problems and how it can be improved. The methodology of this research is descriptive and explanatory. From the findings, it can be seen that; the success or failure of an organization depends greatly on the management, an unproductive and undisciplined supervisor can hardly motivated employees. They know little or nothing about human relations approach in management. Another important finding is in the area of patter of recruitment. Many of the recruited workers are persons who do not have any idea of the job at all. If they are not close relations to the manager or director they must surely be sons-in-law, brother in law or even plain girl friends. Since they don’t have the idea of the job this will lead to low productivity. Based on the above findings, the researchers now concluded that manpower planning and development is inevitable for small, medium and large sized organizations. There should be constant training for the employees, mostly the newly employed so that they will know what is expected of them. Finally, it is important to point out that employees should be compensated for their hard work. All these will help to add strength in workers and higher productivity will be achieved.
