ASSESSMENT OF CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY AS AN AGENT FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


This study is on the assessment of co-operative societies as agent of socio-economic development. All over the world co-operative societies is an economic enterprise set up by economically weak individuals to eliminate middlemen, competition, waste and to bring the producer and the consumer together, it is a voluntary association with unrestricted membership and collectively owned funds. In essence, the assessment of co-operative societies as agent of socio-economic development which this project work is all about to grant credits to members, suppliers, better seeds, fertilizers and implements, market their product, help them in irrigating their lands and supply other needs ta fair prices. The sample size of this study comprises of 40 respondents which were selected using a simple was used for data collection which was validated by the project supervisor before analyzed using percentage method, the finding of the study revealed that co-operative society should follow co-operative and management principles for the purpose of pursuing their business more efficiently which will enhance their economic benefit, finally the study suggest that members should be motivated in order to build team spirit and inculcate good health towards the organizational growth and development. Further studies were suggested to be carried out on why some people may not want to join co-operative, inspite of its benefits
