Ogun State is a state in southwestern Nigeria which was created in February, 1976 from the former Western State. Ogun State borders Lagos State to the south, Oyo State and Osun State to the north, Ondo State, and the Republic of Benin to the west. Abeokuta is both Ogun State's capital and most populous city; other important cities in the state include Ijebu Ode, the former royal capital of the Ijebu Kingdom, and Sagamu, Nigeria's leading kola nut grower. Ogun state is covered predominantly by rain forest and has wooden savanna in the northwest . Ogun State had a total population of 3,751,140 residents as of 2006. Major factories in Ogun include the Dangote Cement factory in Ibese, Nestle, Lafarge Cement factory in Ewekoro, Memmcol in Orimerunmu, Coleman Cables in Sagamu and Arepo, Procter and Gamble in Agbara. Ogun State is predominantly a Yoruba state, with the Yoruba language serving as the major language of the state. Ogun State is noted for being the almost exclusive site of Ofada rice production.

Ogun, state, western Nigeria was created in the year 1976 comprising of the former Abeokuta and Ijebu provinces of former Western state, the latter carved out of former Western region in 1967. Ogun is bounded by Oyo and Osun states to the north, Lagos state to the south, Ondo state to the east, and the Republic of Benin to the west.
Ogun State is known as the "Gateway to Nigeria". The state is notable for having a high concentration of industrial estates and being a major manufacturing hub in Nigeria.
Abeokuta (also know as the “Refuge Among Rocks”) was founded about 1830 by Sodeke (Shodeke), a hunter and leader of the Egba refugees who fled from the disintegrating Oyo empire. The town was also settled by missionaries (in the 1840s) and by Sierra Leone Creoles, who later became prominent as missionaries and as businessmen.
Ogun state was named after Ogun River.
He said some of the affected areas include Kara, Isheri, Denro, Akute, Wawa and Warewa, all in Ifo and Obafemi Owode Local Government Areas of the state.
The largest local government area in Ogun State is Ado-Odo/Ota occupying about 234,647 by area Km2
Ojodu-Berger (Lagos)/Akute and Isheri (Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun), Alakuko (Lagos)/Sango-Ota (Ogun), Mowe/Ibafo (Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state), Ogijo (Ogun)/Odogunyan/Ikorodu (Lagos), Epe (Ogun)/Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), among others, are communities that are contiguous to one another.
