Atani is a town located on the eastern side of the Niger River in Anambra State, Nigeria. It serves as the administrative headquarters for Ogbaru Local Government Area, which lies in the Northern Senatorial District of Anambra. As one of the communities in Ogbaru, Atani is part of the Igbo region. Politically, it shares similarities with other Igbo communities, though distinctions arise in terms of geography and customs. The political framework in Igboland starts with the family unit (Umunna) as the smallest entity, extending to the community (Obodo), the largest unit. Historically, Atani was a settlement of early fishermen and migrant settlers. It remains a key producer of rice, fish, yams, and cassava in Anambra, supplying a significant portion of the food sold in markets across Delta and Anambra States. The people of Atani are of Ukwuani descent.

##Political Structure
Atani’s political system is based on rotation, allowing various communities to participate in the political leadership. The rotation of traditional leadership can result in both peaceful and turbulent political interactions. Different political figures in Atani have distinct responsibilities. The Onowu is responsible for crowning the king, who, alongside the Ndi-iche uku and Ndichie Nta, performs judicial, executive, and spiritual duties. Together, they form the traditional government and political assembly overseeing the community.

Atani’s political structure is inclusive, with roles for both men and women. The Ada (women chiefs), typically the eldest daughters, hold titles and serve as the political heads of all women. Titles such as Oduah Nwanyi (Odekpe), Gegeli (Osamala), and Omu are traditional female roles that involve ritual and judicial responsibilities. To earn this title, the Ada must sacrifice a cock and host a feast. As the head of the Umuada (the collective group of women), the Ada helps maintain peace within the community. The Umuada, in collaboration with male titleholders and age grades, organizes and leads traditional festivals and ceremonies. These events foster inter-community relations and cooperation between Atani and its neighbors, while also playing a vital role in resolving disputes.

Throughout the year, temperatures range between 67°F and 88°F, with extremes rarely dipping below 60°F or rising above 91°F.
