THE RELEVANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DELTA STATE(A CASE STUDY OF SOME SME’S IN UGHELLI NORTH L.G.A)

This project work titled “The Relevance of Small Scale and Medium Scale Enterprises in the Development of Delta State (a case study of some selected small and medium scale enterprises, Ughelli) is a vital one and timely at a time like this that economy development has become a crucial issue in the life of people. Small and medium scale enterprises have greatly to the development of the state economy. This is evident in the fact that it cuts across every sector of the Delta State economy such as; agro-allied industries, services industries, trading (retailing and wholesaling) and other. The objectives of the study, which were explained among other things in chapter one, include among others the relevance of small scale business to the economy development of Delta State. The population of the study among other thing was treated in chapter three and it include small scale business within and around Ughelli North Local government area from which sixty (60) were selected as sample of the study. In the course of this study it was found that small scale business contribute to a large extent to the economy development of Delta State and as such it was recommended in Chapter five that policy maker should make such policy that will favour establishment of small scale business. Knowledge gain from this project work will be invaluable to policy maker small Business entrepreneur and student as well.
