THE CAUSES AND EFFECT OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA ECONOMY(A CASE STUDY OF WARRI, DELTA STATE)

The choice for this project topic “causes and effect of unemployment in the Nigerian economy” was informed by the ever increasing and alarming proportions unemployment rate is assuming in the Nigeria economy. This triggered off this research work to ascertain what actually are the causes of unemployment. Why is it so pervasive in our land? What is it’s effects on the social and economic life of the citizenry? What are the solutions? These are also the disquieting questions on the lips of most Nigerians. The object of this work is to find acceptable answers to these questions. The research was carried out through the collection of data from some small selected scale business in Warri, Delta State through the use of questionnaires and personal interview. The simple percentage method was used to analyse the data collected. The findings were discussed which reveal that lack of information can lead to unemployment. Based on this finding, conclusions were drawn and recommendation made. The finding has also made it possible for the researchers to make suggestions for further study.
