SYMPTOMOLOGY OF MAJOR FUNGAL DISEASES ON TOMATO AND ITS MANAGEMENT

Tomato is an edible berry of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as tomato plant. They are a significant source of “Umami” flavor. Tomato is consumed in diverse ways, raw or cooked, in many dishes, sauces and drink. Tomato are very beneficial to the human body because they help prevent several types of cancer, reduces heart disease, regulate blood sugar, boost immunity, reduces of tomato stand out economically because their presence can cause severe economic losses in production, sale and exportation of fresh fruit that may react in some cases 100%. The phytochemical present in Bitter leaf and moringa leaf are Saponin (++), Tannins (++), Phenol(++), Glycoside (- +), Terpenoid (- +), Flavonoids (++), Alkaloids(++). The aim of this study is to identify fungal disease of tomato and treat the identified fungal diseases using bitter leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) and Moringa oleifera. The tomato varieties (red color) showing symptoms of rot were collected from Ozoro market in Isoko North Local Government Area respectively in Delta state Nigeria. The leaves of Moringa oleifera and Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf) were obtained from Ozoro and taken to the laboratory for analysis. Result obtained from this study show that the tested plant extract significantly reduced the radial growth of isolate fungi. The three fungal that was isolated and identify are Aspergillus sp, Fusarium sp., Candida sp and Penicillum sp.
