Perfume extraction refers to the extraction of aromatic compounds from lemon grass, using method such as distillation, solvent extraction, expression or effleurage. The extracts are essential oils, absolute, concrete or butters, depending on the amount of waxes in the extracted product. Heat, chemical solvent or exposures to oxygen in the extract process denature the aromatic compound, either changing their odor, character or rendering them odorless. In the work three methods; solvent extraction, hydro distillation and effleurage methods were used to extract essential oil from lemon grass. The extract essential oil was formulated into perfume using a fixative and carrier solvent. The process used to produce perfume from lemon grass is the effleurage method; yield of oil from effleurage method is greater than the yield obtained from steam distillation method. Lemon grass is a plant and it is very useful in the production of different things; medically, acts as flavor, soil erosion control and as oil.
