PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF Moringa oleifera LEAVES EXTRACTS

Moringa oleifera lam, popularly called the “Miracle tree” is commonly used in traditional medicine to treat different kinds of disease and infections. It is popularly used in preparing soup in Nigeria, with several medicinal properties, but recently, its potential hazard to human health was observed. This study carried out a profiling of the moringa standard methods as well as the determination of the phytochemical composition as well as the mineral content respectively. The result showed the effective presence of saponins, tannins and phenol were observed, moderate presence of cardiac glycosides and flavonoids. The presence of the different phytochemicals and mineral elements give the moringa it’s medicinal properties as well as it’s perceived. It is therefore recommended that thorough research should be carried out to show beneficial and adverse compositions of moringa leaf.
