The quality of air we breathe is essential for our health. Air is not a natural environment for growth and reproduction of microorganisms. Indoor air quality can be defined as the air quality inside a building laboratory workers will tend to have exposed to various chemical and microbiological substances. Microbes i.e fungi and bacteria are ubiquitous being found in both natural and manmade habitats. Exposure to biological agents in the indoor environment have been suggested to be associated with a wide range of health effects with major public health impact. Microbiology and chemistry laboratories of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro were used as the study area. The total bacteria isolated from the laboratories are six (6) in number which include Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus and Escherichia coli. The fungi isolated from the laboratories include Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus terreus, Penicillium species and Cephalosporium species improper activities of the staff and students such as working without taking precautions could contribute to the air contaminants it is advisable that strict measures should be put in place to check the increasing microbial loads in the laboratory.
