COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SPLIT PLOT AND RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN WITH REPLICATION
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
In many experiments where a factorial arrangement is desired, it may not be possible to completely randomize the order of experimentation. In the design of experiment it is desirable we adopt the design model that is most efficient. The purpose of this research is to determine the relative efficiency of Split plot and randomized complete block with replications (Factorial experiment) design based on their respective error variances. The data for this study was adopted from the experiment performed by Hicks and Turner (1973) the data were compiled on the effect of oven temperature T on baking time on the life Y of an electrical component. The temperature (T) consists of four levels (580, 600, 620 and 640 ? respectively) which form part of the whole plot and the baking time B (5, 10 and 15 minutes). This research is an attempt to compare the effectiveness of SPD over RCBD. The result obtained clearly put the SPD ahead of the RCBD since the relative efficiency statistic computed was to compare the two designs and the values obtained also reveal that the SPD model is more efficient relative to the RCBD model
