CHANGE IN PCV AND HB LEVEL OF POTASSIUM BROMATE INDUCED RATS ADMINISTERED CLOVE EXTRACT

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


It has been reported that potassium bromated exposure increase levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the amount of oxidatives stress. The aim of this study was to determined the changed in PCV and HB level of potassium bromated induced rats administered close extract. Twenty rats weighing between 100g and 180g were used for this study. They were allowed to acclimatized for a period of 7 days. They are divided into different group and treated as follows: group 1, normal control, group 2, potassium bromated, group 3, potassium bromated aqueous between 80 treatment lasted for four weeks. On the last day, the rats were allowed to fast over night and then sacrificed by cervical decapitation. The result of the study indicated significantly lower GSH level in the liver and kidneys when compared with the potassium bromated control. In conclusion, S.aromaticum may have protective effect on liver and kidney GHS level of rats administered potassium bromated. Further investigation should be carried out to determine the exact phytoconstituents that may be responsible for the anti-oxidant antidote property of diethyl ether extract of S.aromaticum against potassium bromated toxicity.
