ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION

The formation of waiting lines is a common phenomenon that occurs whenever the current demand for a service exceed the current capacity to provide that service. Decisions regarding the amount of service to provide must be made frequently in industries even though, it is often impossible to predict accurately when units will arrive to seek service and how much time will be required to provide that service. This project reports on a study conducted on five petrol stations in Ughelli town, namely: Voke’s filling station market road, Total filling station off Isoko road, conoil filling station Ughelli road, matrix filling station market road and sobax filling station off Warri express road. The average arrival rate stations were obtained as 79.43, 81.07. 85.67, 88.4 and 87.93 respectively while the average departure rate or service rate of customers per hour were obtained as 85.43, 87.1, 90.2, 92.83 and 91.4 respectively. The results show that queues exist in each of the five filling stations. It was also observed that the waiting time in the queue and service time at the five filling stations decrease with at the five number of servers.
