ANTIBACTERIA ACTIVITY OF GINGER EXTRACT ON SOME PATHOGENIC ORGANISMS
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been used for long time due to its potential antimicrobial activities against diversity of microbial pathogens. The studies were carried out to investigate the bacterial pathogens found in virginal infections and assess antimicrobial activities of ginger extract to identified bacteria. Bacteriological studies were carried out on fifteen virginal samples that were collected from the female students of delta state polytechnic, Ozoro. Different types of bacteria were isolated using various methods such as culture, biochemical test and antimicrobial activity of ginger extracts was analyzed. The findings showed isolated bacteria and antimicrobial activity of ginger. Isolate bacteria and their percentage includes Staphylococcus aureus (53.33), Streptococcus species (26.66) and Escherichia coli (20.00) which is the least isolated bacteria. Ginger has shown to have an antibacterial activity on bacteria isolated from virginal infected patients. Ginger extract can be used as a medicine to treat these infections.
