OKRA WATER AND ITS HEALTH BENEFITS

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is one of the most widely known and utilized species of the family malavaceae and an economically important vegetable crop grown in tropical and subtropical parts of the world it is known famously by it rows of tiny seed and slimy or sticky texture when cut open. The most important okra producing country are India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ghana and Egypt. It requires a long warm growing season and it is highly sensitive to Frost, loamy soil is best suited for its cultivation, when they are cut open to expose their seeds which are then submerged in water covered to stay overnight it forms a slimy or sticky water to produce okra water. The consumption of it improves digestion, boosts immunity, lowers blood sugar and blood pressure, prevent cancer, promote brain power, prevent stroke, it is a good source of non dietary calcium, controls diabetes, rejuvenate dead skin and improves eyesight. As the saying goes too much of everything is bad, there are some possible side effects of consuming too much okra water such as gastrointestinal problems, kidney stone, inflammation, and blood clotting. Overall okra is an important vegetable crop with a diverse array of nutritional quality and potential health benefits, it is recommended that okra water should be moderately consumed.
