MEDICINAL USE OF BITTER LEAF
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Bitter leaf (vernonia amygdalina) is a shrub that grows up to 3metres high in the African tropics and other parts of Africa. It is reputed to have several medicinal properties that can serve as management of type 2 Diabetes, Cancer prevention and management, and also possess some antimicrobial properties, antimalarial capabilities and antioxidant properties that can prevent the ravaging impact of free radicals and other reactive oxygen species (ROS). And it can also serve as a source of some important nutrients such as minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids when added as supplement to our dietary. Therefore, it is concluded that bitter leaf have some medicinal properties that help in the prevention and management of our health ailments. It is hereby recommended that bitter leaf should be often added to our dietary and should be considered a healthy alternative to our drug medication.
