ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


This research work is written to unfold the impact of banking on the growth of business in rural areas using Tescon Supermarket and Bendel Supermarket both in Ughelli North L.G.A. of Delta State as a Case study, it is imperative to note that before the advent of colonial masters the Europeans to Africa, banking service was seen as a vehicle for developing trade and commerce. Because of the vast interest derived from banking services having their establishment in many different areas of their operation mainly the metropolis headquarters and for centre prompted Rural Banking Programme (RBP) under the promulgated degree by the Federal government of Nigeria. The purpose of this research is both theoretical and empirical on analysis of the impact of banking on the growth of business in rural areas, most especially in the rural communities; they are located using the case study of this project. Specifically, the study pursues a three fold objective. 1. To undertake an in-depth survey of the extent to which banking has helped in the development of rural business in Delta state with reference to the case study committee. 2. To determine or identify the problems and prospect of banking in rural areas in Delta State. 3. To propose suggestions and recommendations that enhance it contribution to business growth of Delta State, which will include such questions i. Do banks impacts reach the rural dwellers? ii. To what extent does banking in the rural areas have helped to improve industrial development in the areas? iii. How has banking helped in business restructuring in rural areas in Delta State iv. Do banks give any other service apart from loan and advances? The data for the study will be derived from two main sources viz: documentary source and field survey of the study. Documentary information’s were obtained from books on banking journals, magazine, newspapers and government papers. The field survey or study which involves the method in which the questionnaire were distributed i.e. personal observation, interview and the administration of the questionnaires in the study areas solely by the researcher. The study strongly emphasized the theoretical consideration in underlying the impact of banking on the growth of business in rural areas, in Delta State and the study area in particular. On the empirical side, the study research provided concrete example from the study area to demonstrate the impact of banking in the study area and proceed to propose strategies for ameliorating negative impacts if any.
