THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICE IN PUBLIC SECTOR ADMINISTRATION NIGERIA(A STUDY OF MINISTRY OF FINANCE, ASABA DELTA STATE)

Survival and growth are the primary objectives of every public and private establishment, which can only be achieved through effective and efficient planning and utilization of available resources. The public expect much from the government for both human and material development. While carrying out this research, the researcher perceive the need to ensure efficient and effective accounting information. The study was aimed at finding out the extent and efficient in which finance is managed and controlled in the ministry of fiancé, Asaba. In improving the system of financial management, some techniques, strategies and policies were suggested. The research was carried out with the aid of questionnaire and personal interview and was discovered that there is a system set up to ensure financial management practice in Delta State ministry of finance and also the questionnaire analyzed reveal that the ministry of finance does not have proper segregation of duties and authorization of transactions. Based on the findings, a conclusion was drawn and arrived at, and recommendations such as internal control system, and improvement or workers welfare were made.
