PARAMETRIC EVALUATION OF BIOGAS PRODUCTION FROM CATALYZED SAW DUST AND HUMAN FEACES

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


This research had an aim parametric evaluation of biogas production from human faeces and saw dust using batch fermentation process. Optimization of biogas production will be carried out by blending 5 types of ratio between human faeces and saw dust which will be 1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2 and 0:1 and addition of additives such as boric acid NiSO4, CoSO4, Zn and Zeolite will be carried out on untreated saw dust human faeces only as the positive control. The experiment is expected to be carried out in seven 50 litres metal prototype bio reactors containing water and waste in the ratio 1:4. Biogas digester operation depends majorly on Carbon/Nitrogen (C/N) ratio, hydraulic retention time pH, temperature, and missing ratio of the domestic waste used. Temperature of 15 to 450C, Carbon/Nitrogen (C/N) ratio of 20 to 30, Hydraulic retention time of 1 to 30 days, missing ratio of 10 to 20% w/v and pH of 6.5 to 8 will be considered for the analysis. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used to test whether there are statistically significant differences between 2 or more independent groups using design expert software. The overall result will show if a blend of saw dust and human faeces is a stable waste combination for biogas production and whether it could be optimized by pretreatment of the saw dust with zeolite before charging.
