FACTORS MILITATING AGAINST THE LEARNING OF TYPEWRITING IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS(A CASE STUDY OF DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC, OZORO)

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


This research work, “factors militating against the learning of typewriting in tertiary institutions” was carried out with the overall aim of finding out the factors affecting the learning of typewriting in the tertiary institutions. Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro was used as the case study. The data for this study was collected through the use of questionnaires. Responses to the administered questionnaires were analyzed in a tabular form using simple percentages. The outcome of the study proved that inadequate equipment and other learning facilities in the learning of the subject (typewriting) has far reaching negative effect on the overall learning ability of the students. Equally, the number of other subjects offered and the poor attitude of the learners towards the subject (typewriting) do not give the students adequate comfort and balance to study the subject effectively and efficiently. Other problems include, lack of guidance and counseling, uses of improper method of learning the subject and lack of interest by the learners. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that: i. Since the subject is practical in nature, modern and up-to-date machine (typewriter) should be supplied so that students can carry on with their studies effectively. ii. Again, the services of guidance and counseling should be provided to boost the students interest on the subject. Furthermore, the management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro should establish a financial motivating scheme for both the teachers and the learners and the learners of the subject in order to boost the morale and encourage them to be more effective in the teaching and learning of this subject. Equally, necessary learning materials and other instructional aids should be provided for the learners in adequate
