APPLICATION OF STUDENT T-TEST ON TRAFFIC FLOW

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION

The problem of safe and standard walkways for students is one of the basic infrastructures an institution should put in place; especially for the sake of pedestrians as they form most part of the population. It is, however, that most institutions have few or no walkways at all to accommodate pedestrians and this leads to congestion on motorable roads or the few walkways available. In view of this, to justify the need of enough walkways in institutions to accommodate pedestrians, this research examines the traffic flow of pedestrians in Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro, walkway. Using convenience sampling plan, data on traffic flow was collected from Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro, walkway with respect to sex (male and female) , between the hours of 12 noon to 1 pm for five (5) consecutive days. The data obtained from the survey was analyzed using the student t-test statistical technique on five null hypotheses. The result of the study revealed that there is no significance difference between the mean of the selected samples. It also revealed that there is high level of traffic congestion between the hours of 12 noon to 1 pm. It was, therefore, recommended that more walkways should be erected and officials be put in place to ensure that pedestrians use the walkway for its stipulated purpose.
