ANTIBACTERIA ACTIVITY OF EUPHORBIA HIRTA AGAINST ANITBIOTIC RESISTANT PATHOGENIC BACTERIA

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION

Euphorbin hirta was extracted using aqueous and ethanol solvents the disc diffusion test was used to carry out the antibacterial activity on antibiotic resistant pathogenic bacteria which include Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp, Salmonella spp, Shigella and Bacillus spp. the results indicated that high concentration of the extracts yielded a high zone of inhibition for the pathogens whereas after the extracts yielded a high zone of inhibition for the pathogens whereas after the extracts underwent curing by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and acridine orange the organisms became more susceptible to even lower and higher concentrations of the extracts. The antibiotics however were still affected by the curing improving their efficiency on some pathogens. It is recommended that curing is investigated as a means to improve antibiotics effectiveness.
