A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON PROSPECT AND FACTOR THAT INFLUENCE ASPIRATION AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT IN ISOKO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


The focus of this research was the career choice of Senior Secondary School Students in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. A sample of 100 students were used in this study. The instrument used in this study was questionnaire which was formulated to test four null hypotheses to wit: There is no siginificant difference between female and male student career choice. There is no significant difference between rural and urban career choice. There is no significant difference between high and low socio-economic status of students career choice. There is no significant difference between single and mixed senior secondary school students career choice. Investigation was conducted on the above state null hypotheses which outcome confirmed that there are no significant difference of students career choice as indicated by the null hypotheses but what determine students career choice are: professions, location of study, socio-economic status of parents, personal interest and intellectual abilities of students. From the data analysed in this study it was observed as follows: that Law, Medicine, Nursing and Accountancy are the career choice of male and female senior secondary school students. That Accountancy, Law and Medicine are the career choice of rural and urban senior secondary school students. That Medicine, Law, Nursing and Accountancy are the career choice of low and high socio-economic status of students. That Medicine, Accountancy, Law and Nursing are the career choice of single and mixed senior secondary school students. The research revealed that the career choice of the students are sometimes made unrealistically because they are not armed effectively with the requisite information to do so realistically. To help the students therefore, it was recommended that guidance and counseling services should be integrated in the senior secondary school curriculum to properly orient their career choice and relevant information should be provided to students for them to make realistic choices in order to have unregretable, fruitful and lucrative future career
