A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLING (SRS) AND STRATIFIED RANDOM SAMPLING(STRS) IN POPULATION CENSUS(A CASE STUDY OF UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN)
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
The study analysis comparison between “simple random sampling (SRS)” and stratified random sampling (STRS)” in the population census of university of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria considering the year 2009 and 2010 to know which of the sampling method is more efficient. In this study, estimates such as variation, standard error etc. are used. The study shows that the standard error and variance of the stratified random sampling is less than that of the simple random sampling techniques. And according to “NEYMAN”to show that the stratified random sampling is more efficient than the simple random sampling, the variance of the stratified random estimate would yield a lower value when compared to that of the simple random sampling estimate. Therefore, this shows that the stratified random sampling is more efficient to get the necessary information needed from the population census
