##Admission Requirements
For Undergraduate (UTME) Applicants
Firstly, you must pick UI as your first choice in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) when applying. 

You’ll need a minimum JAMB (UTME) score of 200 to be eligible for UI’s screening. 

O’Level requirements: at least 5 credit passes in relevant subjects in one sitting or 6 credits in two sittings. English Language is always required; for science/engineering courses, a credit in Mathematics is normally required. 

For Direct Entry applicants (e.g., A-Level, ND, HND, NCE): UI requires that you fulfil the O’Level requirement as above and have the relevant qualifications for the 200/300 level entry. 

Other standard rules: You must be at least 16 years old by 30 September of the year of admission. 

Note: Even if you meet the minimum JAMB score and have the required O’Level credits, you’re not guaranteed admission — you must also pass UI’s Post-UTME / screening exam and meet the departmental cut-off. 

UI uses a mix of criteria (e.g., UTME score + screening score) to determine if you make the cut. 

##Tuition / School Fees
Here’s a general idea of what you might pay at UI (undergraduate and postgraduate) — keep in mind fees can change.

Undergraduate (Freshers & Returning Students)

For example: For freshers in disciplines like Arts, Social Sciences & Law: roughly ?34,300 (as reported) while returning students in those fields pay less (?19,700-29,700). 
For Agriculture/Forestry/Basic Sciences: freshers around ?36,800, returning students roughly ?22,150-31,150. 

These figures are indicative; your exact total cost will also include other charges like technology levy, accommodation (if on campus), hostel fees, etc.

Postgraduate
For Master’s, PGD, PhD programmes: tuition fees may range from about ?150,000 – ?400,000 depending on the programme & faculty. 

Bottom line: UI remains relatively affordable compared to many private institutions, especially at the undergraduate level.

##Cut-off Marks
Here’s how the cut-offs at UI work and some recent numbers.

General Cut-off (JAMB)
For the 2025/2026 session, the general JAMB minimum for UI is 200. That is the lowest you need just to be eligible for UI’s post-UTME. 

Departmental / Programme Cut-offs
Each course has its own cut-off, which may be higher than the general minimum. For example, for the 2024/2025 session:

Medicine & Surgery	78.125 (merit) in UI’s internal aggregate. 

Pharmacy 		68.0 merit. 

Computer Science	71.0 merit. 

These numbers are not JAMB scores alone — they refer to the university’s internal cut-off after screening (often combining UTME, screening result, etc.).

In other words: Even if you scored 200 in JAMB, for a highly competitive course you’ll likely need much higher. 

##Putting It All Together – What You Should Do
If you’re planning to apply to UI, here are some practical tips:

Aim to score well above the minimum 200 in JAMB if you have your heart set on competitive courses (Medicine, Engineering, Law, etc.).

Make sure you have your O’Level results sorted: 5 credits (or 6 in two sittings) including English + the relevant subjects for your course.

Check the specific subject combinations required for your chosen course (some courses need Maths + Physics + Chemistry, etc.).

Register for UI’s Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening when the form is out; pay the fees timely and follow the portal instructions carefully.

Keep checking UI’s official website (admissions portal) for updates: exam dates, fee payment instructions, cut-offs.

Be realistic: If you fall short in score for a top programme, consider applying for a less competitive programme or wait and apply next year.
