The journey of Tansian University began with the vision of its founder, Rev. Msgr. Prof. John Bosco Akam, who strongly believed that education should be both a tool for knowledge acquisition and a means of moral and spiritual transformation. In pursuit of this vision, he sought and received approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria, and in May 2007, the university was officially licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The university started operations at its take-off campus in Oba, Anambra State, before relocating to its permanent site in Umunya. From its inception, Tansian University has focused on providing academic programs across key disciplines while maintaining its Catholic ethos. Despite challenges common to many private universities in Nigeria, it has continued to grow, expand its facilities, and strengthen its reputation for discipline and academic excellence.

##Chancellor
The Chancellor of Tansian University is Rev. Msgr. Prof. John Bosco Akam, the founder of the university, who also served as the Grand Chancellor until his passing in 2021. His legacy continues to guide the institution.
