The idea for Veritas University was conceived in the early 2000s by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, who saw the need for an institution of higher learning that would reflect Catholic identity and values while providing world-class education.
In 2002, the project was initiated, and after careful planning, the university was officially established in 2007. It first operated in Obehie, Abia State, before relocating to its permanent site in Bwari, Abuja, in 2014. This relocation positioned Veritas University at the heart of Nigeria’s capital, giving it access to diverse resources, international partnerships, and government institutions.
Since its inception, the university has expanded significantly, establishing faculties in diverse disciplines such as natural sciences, social sciences, arts, education, management sciences, and law.
