##Origins and Establishment
The University of Ilesa, located in Osun State, Nigeria, was officially established on September 27, 2022, following the signing of the enabling law by the Osun State Government. The institution emerged through the strategic transformation of the former Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, into a full-fledged university.

This upgrade was initiated to broaden access to higher education and reposition the sector as a catalyst for economic development. The University was envisioned to foster entrepreneurial education, cultivate job creators, and train professionals capable of harnessing the state’s abundant mineral and agricultural resources. The National Universities Commission (NUC) granted formal recognition to the University of Ilesa on November 10, 2022, designating it as the 60th state-owned university and the 220th in the Nigerian university system. Subsequently, on April 12, 2023, the university’s principal officers were appointed, with Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph.D., FCA, inaugurated as the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor.
