Topfaith University's story is both recent and ambitious. The institution is part of the Topfaith education group that originally started in Mkpatak. The group included nursery, primary and secondary schools (e.g., Topfaith International Secondary School) which had as mission providing quality education anchored in moral values and global relevance.

In April 2021, the institution received its licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to operate as a university. 

In its inaugural matriculation ceremony, the first cohort of 104 pioneer students was admitted into the four faculties of the university. The event included the commissioning of the Udom Emmanuel Block (which houses the Management & Social Sciences Faculty) and the inauguration of the university’s facilities.

Since then, the university has grown its academic programmes and achieved full accreditation for numerous programmes. In January 2024 it announced full NUC accreditation for its 24 academic programmes and permission to offer eight new ones (such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Science and Public Health).

The Chancellor of Topfaith University is HRM Edidem Raymond T. Inyang, the Paramount Ruler of Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who ascended the throne in 2018. 

He holds an accounting degree from Howard University in the United States and worked as a certified public accountant (CPA), banker and administrator in Nigeria and the USA

As a traditional ruler, he brings to the role of chancellor a blend of cultural leadership, professional experience, and regional connection.

His appointment and formal installation in the first matriculation ceremony of the university symbolised the union of academic institution and community/traditional leadership; and reinforced the university’s commitment to ethics, character and local relevance through higher education.

The NUC Tech Report shows full accreditation of the Electrical & Electronics Engineering programme (score: 88.43%) for the university. 

Similarly, full accreditation was granted to the Computer Engineering programme (score: 90.08%). 

In January 2024, Topfaith University announced full accreditation by the NUC for all the 24 academic programmes it offered at the time, and permission to introduce eight new programmes (Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Science, Public Health). 

Additionally, the LL.B programme (Law) received full accreditation with a score of 86.81% in November 2024.
