##History
Greenfield University’s story begins with an ambition to fill a gap in Nigerian higher education, especially in northern Nigeria where private university options were relatively sparse. The promoters of what became GFU had more than 20 years’ experience in education within Kaduna State at nursery, primary and secondary levels, and believed they could extend that legacy into university education. 

Their formal planning began in November 2013 when the promoters declared their intention to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish the university. 
Construction work for the permanent site began in January 2015, on a 110-hectare tract at KM 33 along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway in Kasarami village, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State. After verification visits by the NUC’s Standing Committee on Private Universities (SCOPU) in 2016 and 2018 that returned satisfactory reports, the university was licensed on 5 February 2019. 

Academic activities began in the 2018/2019 session (May/June 2019) with initial faculties in science & technology, engineering and social/management sciences. 
However, the young institution faced a serious security incident: in April 2021 armed bandits attacked the then-campus at Kasarami, abducting many students and killing five. In the aftermath, the university relocated to a city campus in Kudenda (Umueri Road) in Kaduna in order to ensure safer and uninterrupted academic operations. 

Since then the university has grown in student population (reportedly about four-fold according to its chancellor appointment announcement). 
Thus, in a relatively short period the institution has moved from concept to licensed university, addressed challenges, and is building toward its first full graduation cohorts and full development of programmes.

The Chancellor of Greenfield University is Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who holds the traditional title Emir of Zazzau.

Brief Biography:
Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli is a distinguished Nigerian figure: a diplomat, traditional ruler (Emir of Zazzau), and served in various public service roles prior to his traditional leadership. His appointment as the university’s pioneer chancellor in August 2022 allowed the institution to have a distinguished ceremonial head, giving it additional prestige and anchoring it in the Kaduna community’s tradition.
