##Introduction
Gombe State University of Science and Technology (GSUST) stands as one of Nigeria’s most promising institutions focused on science, technology, and innovation. Located in Kumo, Gombe State, the university was established in 2017 to drive development through specialized education in science and technology. GSUST plays a critical role in advancing academic excellence, research capacity, and technical innovation in the Northeastern region of Nigeria.
##Establishment of GSUST
The Gombe State University of Science and Technology was officially established in 2017 under the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo. The creation of the university aligned with the state’s educational reform agenda aimed at improving access to quality higher education and fostering socio-economic development through science and technology.
The institution was conceived to complement the already existing Gombe State University (GSU), which offers a broad-based curriculum. GSUST was thus designed with a clear niche—specializing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs.

##Location and Campus Infrastructure
GSUST is situated in Kumo, the headquarters of Akko Local Government Area in Gombe State. The choice of Kumo as the site was strategic, aiming to bring higher education closer to the local population and stimulate economic activities in the region.
Since its inception, the university has been undergoing phases of infrastructural development. The state government initiated construction of key facilities such as lecture halls, science laboratories, faculty buildings, student hostels, administrative blocks, and ICT centers to provide a conducive environment for learning and research.

##Pioneer Vice-Chancellor (2017)@
In 2017, Professor Abdullahi Mahadi was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University of Science and Technology. His appointment marked a significant milestone in the operationalization of the university.
Professor Mahadi brought to the role a wealth of experience in university administration and academic leadership. He had previously served in various academic capacities across Nigerian universities and was known for his commitment to institutional development, academic excellence, and scholarly integrity.
Under his leadership, the university took foundational steps in establishing its academic programs, recruiting qualified faculty, and setting up administrative structures. He also played a key role in securing approvals and collaborations necessary for the university’s early development.
