Prof. Katsayal served on the academic staff of Ahmadu Bello University (1998 onward) in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development, with research focus on drug development from medicinal plants for tropical diseases (especially malaria). 

He also served briefly as a Member of the House of Representatives, representing Daura/Mai’adua/Sandamu federal constituency, where he sponsored several bills before returning to academia and subsequently being appointed pioneer Vice-Chancellor of FUTD.

Under his leadership, FUTD is building its identity as a transport-technology and logistics-focused institution with strong research and industry linkages.
