##Motto

##Founder
The University was founded by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It was one of the newer federal universities created during the administration of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to expand access to tertiary education across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones. 

While there is no individual “founder” in the sense of a private institution, the federal government’s policy and legislative act underpin the establishment of FULafia in 2011 (initially as Federal University, Lafia). 

##History
The history of FULafia is relatively short compared to many older institutions—but its journey reflects the rapid growth and expansion of Nigerian higher education. The University was established in February 2011 as “Federal University, Lafia” by the Federal Government, with the aim of expanding access to quality university education. 

In its early years, the institution operated from a temporary or take-off campus, utilising existing structures that were renovated and additional ones put in place before academic activities began. 

In 2015 the University began relocating to a permanent site of approximately 206 hectares of land along Lafia-Makurdi Road in Lafia, provided by the Nasarawa State Government. By about 2018, the main administration and majority of faculties had moved to the new permanent site. 

In June 2019 the institution’s name was amended by the Governing Council to “Federal University of Lafia” in line with the Gazette of the Establishment Act of 2015. 

During its first years (2011-2016) FULafia admitted its pioneer batches, established its initial faculties (Arts, Science, Social Sciences) and constructed key infrastructure such as library, ICT centre, hostels and sport complex. 
Over time, it expanded its academic portfolios, added postgraduate programmes (the School of Postgraduate Studies launched in 2016) and invested in research and community service programmes.

Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Isa Ahmadu holds the national honours CFR (Commander of the Federal Republic) and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals and Medicine (FFPM).

As Emir of Mubi, he carries a traditional leadership role and has a reputation for community service, mediation, and leadership in the region.

His appointment as Chancellor places him as the ceremonial head of the university: he will preside at convocations, serve as an ambassador for the university, and contribute to its strategic standing, though day-to-day operations lie with the Vice-Chancellor and management team.

Having a traditional and respected leader as Chancellor often helps universities strengthen their links to cultural heritage, community networks and public reputation. For FULafia, this appointment signals an aspiration to raise its profile and deepen its embedment in regional and national service.

##Accreditation and Recognition
