##Founder

##History
The history of Federal University Gusau begins with its establishment on 18 February 2013, when the Federal Government of Nigeria approved the university as one of the twelve new federal universities in states that had none. 

Although the approval was in 2013, the university commenced academic activities in the 2014/2015 academic session. 

From its inception, FUGUS adopted a faculty-system of organisation and planned to develop in phases, with each phase covering approximately five years and characterised by the establishment of new faculties, departments and programmes. 

Initially the university launched with a School of Pre-Science Studies plus three Faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Education; the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences; and the Faculty of Science. 

Over time, it has expanded to include other faculties and programmes as part of its growth plan.

In terms of infrastructure, FUGUS has made strides: for example, the completion of its iconic Senate Building and a College of Medical Sciences was announced in 2024/2025.

The Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau is Eze ogo Ewa Elechi (arch. Ezeogo Elechi) of Ohaisu Kingdom in Ebonyi State. 

Brief Biography:
His Royal Highness Ezeogo Ewa Elechi is the Isu Oha 1 of Ohaisu Kingdom, located in Ebonyi State. 

His appointment as Chancellor was announced during the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony. 

The role of Chancellor is largely ceremonial in most Nigerian universities, serving as the figurehead, conferring degrees, and representing the university at formal occasions. In his statement he pledged to support the university’s development, leveraging his experience in education, peace and unity. 

As chancellor, Ezeogo Elechi provides institutional gravitas and a bridge between the university, its stakeholders and the broader society.

##Accreditation and Recognition
Accreditation is key for any university’s credibility, indicating that its programmes meet national quality standards. For FUGUS:

In April 2022 the NUC released the results of the October/November 2021 accreditation exercise, confirming that thirteen academic programmes in the three faculties (Science, Humanities and Education) received full accreditation.
