Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), located in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State in southeastern Nigeria, is one of the foremost institutions of higher learning in Nigeria. Established in 1982, ESUT has consistently worked toward its vision of becoming a leading institution of higher learning that is globally competitive in teaching, research, and community engagement. It also highlights the current Vice-Chancellor and the leadership's role in shaping the university’s future. ##History of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Enugu State University of Science and Technology was officially established in 1982 as the University of Science and Technology, Enugu by the then Government of Anambra State (Enugu State was part of Anambra until it became a separate entity in 1991). The university was set up with a clear mandate to focus on science and technology education to cater to the growing demand for skilled manpower in the country. ESUT commenced its academic programs in 1983 with the establishment of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering. From its humble beginnings, the university has expanded both in terms of academic programs and infrastructure. Over the years, the university broadened its focus to include humanities, social sciences, health sciences, and business administration, while continuing to maintain a strong emphasis on science and technology. The physical infrastructure of the university has also undergone significant improvements. Since its establishment, ESUT has been led by a series of dedicated Vice-Chancellors who have worked tirelessly to position the university as a leading institution in Nigeria. These leaders have made substantial contributions to the university’s academic and infrastructural development. ##Current Vice-Chancellor As of February 2025, the Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology is Professor Aloysius M. I. Eze. He was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the university in 2021, bringing with him a wealth of academic experience, leadership skills, and a deep commitment to advancing the university’s mission. Biography of Professor Aloysius M. I. Eze: Professor Aloysius M. I. Eze is a distinguished academic with an extensive background in Computer Science and Information Technology. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Lagos, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Before becoming the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eze held several notable academic and administrative positions within ESUT. He was a Professor of Computer Science, serving in various academic and leadership roles, including: Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences Head of the Department of Computer Science Director of the University’s ICT Center Throughout his academic career, Professor Eze has made significant contributions to the field of computer science, with a particular focus on software development, systems design, and the application of technology to address local and global challenges. He has published numerous papers in reputable academic journals and has been involved in various research projects aimed at advancing technological solutions in the field. As Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eze has prioritized the further development of ESUT’s infrastructure, research capacity, and student experience. Under his leadership, the university has focused on integrating cutting-edge technologies into its academic programs, improving administrative processes, and enhancing the overall learning environment for students. He has also worked to strengthen ESUT’s relationships with industries, ensuring that students gain practical exposure to real-world challenges during their academic journey.
