Covenant University was inaugurated on October 21, 2002, with an initial enrollment of approximately 1,500 students. The foundation stone of the permanent site was laid on January 27, 2002, and construction commenced in March of the same year, culminating in the completion of the first phase within eight months . The university is a product of the Liberation Commission and was established by the World Mission Agency and the Living Faith Church Worldwide .
