Caleb University was granted a provisional license by the Federal Government of Nigeria on May 17, 2007, to operate as a private university.  The institution commenced full academic activities on January 21, 2008, admitting students into three foundational colleges:

College of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS)

College of Social and Management Sciences (COSOMAS) 


Initially operating from its approved take-off site in Ikosi GRA, off CMD Road, Lagos, the university relocated in November 2009 to its permanent 110-hectare campus at Km 15, Ikorodu-Itoikin Road, Imota, Lagos State. Professor Owens-Ibie has held various positions within the university, including Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dean of Students, Dean of the College of Social and Management Sciences, and Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies.
