##Introduction
Baze University, situated in Abuja, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, is a distinguished private institution known for its commitment to providing quality education.  Established in 2011, the university operates under the guiding motto, "Learn to live," reflecting its dedication to preparing students for meaningful contributions to society. ##Founding History
Baze University was founded in 2011 by Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a Nigerian politician, economist, and educationist.  The university was established with the aim of providing British-style higher education in Nigeria, addressing the need for quality tertiary education in the country.  The institution commenced academic activities with 17 students and has since grown significantly, both in student population and academic offerings.  

##Campus Development
Located in Abuja, the university boasts a modern campus equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.  Over the years, Baze University has expanded its infrastructure to include faculties such as Law, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Medical and Health Sciences.  The campus also features a library, staff housing complex, and student hostels with a capacity for 500 students each.  

##Accreditation
Baze University is officially recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria.  In 2017, the university entered into a partnership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to integrate ACCA curriculum into its programs, enhancing the quality of its accounting education.  

However, in November 2023, the Council of Legal Education (CLE) imposed a five-year ban on Baze University from admitting students into its Law program due to violations related to admission quotas and program duration.  

##Vice Chancellor
As of 2025, Prof. Kathleen Ebelechukwu Okafor serves as the Vice Chancellor of Baze University.  A distinguished legal scholar, she obtained her LL.B from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1974, and later earned her LL.M from University College London in 1981, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Lagos in 2000.  Prof. Okafor was appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor in August 2023, succeeding Prof. Tahir Mamman, who was appointed as Nigeria's Minister of Education. 

##Governance and Administration
The administrative structure of Baze University is designed to ensure academic freedom, financial accountability, and transparent governance. The Board of Trustees and Governing Council oversee strategic direction, while the Senate is responsible for academic matters.

The current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kathleen Okafor, is supported by principal officers including the Registrar, Bursar, and Deans of Faculties. Their combined efforts ensure the smooth operation of the university in accordance with national policies and global best practices.

##Notable Alumni
Baze University has produced several alumni who have made significant contributions in various fields: 

Dino Melaye: Former Nigerian Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District.  

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi: Former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation.  

Osita Chidoka: Former Minister of Aviation in Nigeria.  

Bashir Yusuf Jamoh: Former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), who holds a bachelor's degree in Law from Baze University.  

Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura: Nigerian businessman and politician, known for his philanthropic activities and political engagements.


##Faculties and Departments

Faculty of Law: Despite recent accreditation setbacks, Baze University's Faculty of Law has remained one of its most prominent departments. It has produced graduates who go on to serve in public administration, private legal practice, and corporate sectors. The curriculum is designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical legal experience. Students are trained in Nigerian legal systems and international legal practices to prepare them for diverse careers.

Faculty of Engineering: The Faculty of Engineering at Baze University offers programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering.
