##History and Establishment
Al-Qalam University was born out of the aspiration of Nigerian Muslims to establish a homegrown Islamic university. The idea took shape after the establishment of the Islamic University in Niamey, Niger Republic, in 1987 by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). This inspired Muslim stakeholders in Nigeria to push for a similar institution domestically.

In January 2005, the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted the operating license for Katsina University, which later rebranded as Al-Qalam University to better reflect its Islamic identity. The university was founded under the auspices of the Islamic Education Trust and the Al-Qalam Educational Foundation.
