Umuawulu is a town situated in the Awka South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State, Nigeria, at coordinates 6°09'0"N 7°06'0"E. As of 2005, the population of Umuawulu was estimated to be 20,150. According to the 2011 INEC voter register, the town had 4,323 registered voters distributed across its three villages: Enugwu (2,532 voters), Umuenu (769 voters), and Agbana (1,022 voters).
Historically, Umuawulu was governed by H.R.H. Eze G.C. Igboamazu, also known as Eze Udo (the Peace King), who reigned as Igwe 1 of Umuawulu from 1977 to 2000. The current traditional ruler is H.R.H. Eze Joel Maduabuchie Egwuonwu, who ascended the throne on March 13, 2014.
The town is home to two primary schools and two secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, Holy Cross High School is one of the oldest educational institutions in southeastern Nigeria. Umuawulu is also a center of religious activity, with 12 churches, including Anglican and Roman Catholic denominations.
The town consists of three villages: Enugwu, Umuenu, and Agbana, each hosting a market: Oye Umuawulu in Enugwu, Oye Umuenu in Umuenu, and Nkwo Agbana in Agbana. These markets serve as key trade hubs for surrounding communities due to the town's strategic location, with Oye Umuawulu being the most prominent.
Umuawulu shares borders with five towns: Isiagu to the north, Amaetiti to the east, Nibo to the west, and Awgbu and Mbaukwu to the south. Mbaukwu is considered the ancestral sibling of Umuawulu.
