During its peak, traders from the eastern part of Nigeria, particularly from Arochukwu in Abia State, settled in Ikot Okoro. The settlement currently has a secondary school and two primary schools, and it is connected to the national power grid with reliable telecommunications coverage from all the major wireless service providers in Nigeria. A recent improvement is the road construction linking Ikot Ntuen through Asanga to Urua Atim, which has revitalized commercial activity in the area after nearly 40 years of neglect due to the ethnic politics that unfolded in Akwa Ibom State after the civil war.
