History, Origin, Culture and Traditions of Ahaba Town in Abia State

 
Ahaba is a countryside settlement situated within the Oloko region of the Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia State, Nigeria. The community is divided into two self-governing parts: Isiala Ahaba and Ahaba Ukwu. It is located approximately 23 kilometers south of Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State.

##Background and Origins
According to local tradition, a warrior and headhunter named Ngwu, originally from Ahaba Imenyi in today’s Isuikwuato Local Government Area, arrived in the area during a headhunting expedition. He eventually made the place his home, leading to the community being named Ahaba.

##Traditions and Celebrations
The residents of Ahaba, like many other groups in Ikwuano, observe the annual Ekpe festival every January. This vibrant cultural event marks the conclusion of the farming calendar and is a major traditional celebration in the region.
