History, Origin, Culture and Traditions Ideani Town in Anambra state

 
Ideani, sometimes spelled Ide Ani, is a town located in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It is bordered to the west by Uke, to the south by Alor, and to the north and east by Abatete.

##History
Ideani was originally a village within Alor before gaining independence in 1970 after the Biafra-Nigeria civil war. The town is made up of seven villages: Urueze, Umuduba, Nsokwe, Umuru, Oko, Uruechem Akama, and Nkpazueziama. During the colonial era, it was governed by British-appointed regents.

The leadership of Ideani was initially held by Chiefs Ezenwanne Obianyo and Onyido Uwaezuoke, who ruled both Ideani and parts of Alor. The relationship between the two communities became strained when Ideani sought to ensure that the funds raised through their joint efforts were equally beneficial to both towns. This led to a push for secession from Alor, driven by the perception of marginalization. In the 1930s, young Ideanians in Enugu called for a boycott of the Alor/Ideani meetings. To address these issues, the Ideani Development Union (IDU) was established, and Chief Geoffrey Anazodo Mezue became its first president, a position he held for nearly three decades.

Following the colonial regents, Ideani went without a traditional ruler until 1977, when Chief Humphrey Okoye was crowned Eze Oranyelu I of Ideani. He ruled until his passing in 2015. As of 2017, a new Igwe had yet to be appointed.

##Economy
The economy of Ideani is diverse, with many residents engaged in various professions such as farming, trading, teaching, factory work, and civil service jobs.

##Religion
The majority of Ideanians are Christians, with a small proportion practicing traditional religious beliefs. Notable places of worship in the town include St. Paul Catholic Church, Immanuel Anglican Church, and St. Simon Anglican Church.

##Education
Ideani has several educational institutions. The community is home to Ideani Community School, commonly referred to as Opiegbe, which is a co-educational secondary school. There are also two main primary schools, Central School Ideani and St. Paul's Primary School, both of which were founded by missionaries.
