Uzo-Uwani is an administrative district located in Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria, sharing territorial boundaries with both Kogi and Anambra States. The governing center of the region is situated in the town of Umulokpa. The land area spans roughly 855 square kilometers, and as of the national population survey conducted in 2006, it had 124,480 residents. The designated postal identifier for the area is 411.
##Security Incident in Nimbo
On April 25, 2016, the Nimbo axis of Uzo-Uwani faced a brutal and deadly assault attributed to armed militants. The coordinated onslaught involved more than 500 attackers identified as Fulani herdsmen—considered among the top four most dangerous terrorist entities globally. The assailants stormed seven local villages: Ekwuru, Ngwoko, Ugwuijoro, Ebor, Enugu-Nimbo, Umuome, and Ugwuachara, resulting in numerous fatalities. During the violence, the community's Catholic parish was also destroyed by fire.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State later suggested that the tragedy may have been avoidable if national security forces had effectively utilized intelligence reports. These reports had indicated that hostile elements were amassing in Odolu, a nearby town in Kogi State, ahead of the assault.
Prior to this event, in February 2016, another locality within Uzo-Uwani, Abbi, suffered a related incident. In that attack, two siblings—Fidelis and Mercy Okeja—were killed, 19 individuals went missing, and multiple homes and motorbikes were set ablaze.
