##Founder
MAU traces its founding to the Federal Government of Nigeria, which in 1981 established the institution as one of the new Federal Universities of Technology, with the aim of producing high-level manpower in science and technology. 

Thus, rather than being founded by a single individual, the university is the product of national policy and legislation directed at expanding Nigeria’s tertiary education infrastructure in technological and development-oriented fields.

##History
The history of MAU Yola is one of progressive growth, structural change, re-branding and evolving mission. The university was originally established in 1981 as one of seven Federal Universities of Technology created to meet Nigeria’s need for technology-oriented manpower. 

Initially, the institution worked from temporary or transitional facilities; construction of the new site at Sangere, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State (about 10km from Jimeta) began soon after. 

In October 1984, during a reorganisation of federal tertiary institutions, the university was merged with University of Maiduguri and became the Modibbo Adama Campus of that university. 

However, on 1 January 1988 the institution was de-merged, regained its autonomy and resumed operations as the Federal University of Technology, Yola. 

In 2011 the university’s name was changed to Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTECH) to reflect the legacy of Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan (the scholar and founder of the Adamawa Emirate) and to underscore its regional identity. The change took effect on 1 October 2011. 

More recently, the university has embarked on expansion of faculties (e.g., College of Medical Sciences) and diversification of programmes, signaling a shift from purely technology to a broader academic base.

Brief Biography: HRM Okuku (Uwa Umoh Adiaka III) serves as the Chancellor in a ceremonial capacity, a common practice in Nigerian universities where the Chancellor is often a traditional ruler or eminent public figure. While academic leadership (Vice-Chancellor) handles the operational and academic matters, the Chancellor presides over convocations, confers degrees and represents the institution in formal functions.
