##History
The history of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma unfolds in a backdrop of national educational policy, regional equity, and infrastructure development. In December 2010, the federal government approved the establishment of several new federal universities in states that did not yet host one; FUDMA was among these, created to expand access and drive development in the North West zone. 

Officially, the university came into being in early 2011. On 9 February 2011 the Minister of Education at the time approved the appointments of the first Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, which took effect on 16 February 2011. 

The academic activities began from a “take-off” campus provided by the Katsina State Government, which had donated what was formerly a Government Day Secondary School in Dutsin-Ma. That former building was renovated and remodelled to accommodate the central administrative block, lecture rooms, staff offices, and a university clinic. 

In its early years, the university focused on laying solid foundations: recruiting academic staff, setting up faculties and departments, and building infrastructure. By 2015–16 it had earned recognition that it was punching above its “new-university” status: for example, it was reported to have been ranked 14th by Webometrics in January 2015 among Nigerian universities. 

Over time, more facilities were built, new programmes added, and the campus grew. As of 2023, FUDMA announced that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had accredited 23 new full-time undergraduate programmes and 21 postgraduate programmes, reflecting its growth in academic offerings.

##Chancellor

For FUDMA, at the time of writing, the substantive Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, appointed as the 4th substantive VC on 25 October 2025. 

He was born 22 July 1962 in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State. Othman is an agricultural engineer, lecturer and researcher who obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He previously served as Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS) at ABU Zaria.

While I did not find a named Chancellor (in the strict sense of ceremonial head) in the publicly-available sources at this moment, we can say that the leadership is clearly defined and the Vice-Chancellor carries strong academic credentials, regional linkages, and administrative experience that are critical for driving FUDMA forward.
