##Founder
APU was founded by Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi, a respected politician and philanthropist from the Patigi area of Kwara State. He is the son of the late Galadima Patigi, Hon. Ahman Pategi, who served as Minister of Agriculture and Health in Nigeria’s First Republic. The university is described as his “legacy project” intended to serve his community and region by increasing access to high-quality tertiary education.

##History
The history of Ahman Pategi University is relatively recent but packed with promise and regional intent. The university was among the 20 private universities approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in February 2021 and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 8 April 2021. 

APU is located on a substantial tract of land in Patigi, a region with rich cultural heritage and agricultural possibilities. In foundational statements, the founder emphasized that the university would help to develop the immediate region, provide accessible education to the Nupe people and others, and empower students with both skills and knowledge. In its early years, APU launched with a modest cohort of students across approximately fifteen programmes in its two initial faculties (Sciences & Computing; Humanities, Social & Management Sciences). 

The March 2023 matriculation of 96 students (69 UTME and 27 direct entry) underlined the operational progress of the institution. 

By December 2023, the university achieved a significant milestone when the NUC approved 15 new undergraduate programmes — including programmes such as Geology & Mineral Science, Biochemistry, Education Science, Sociology & Criminology — signalling growth both in academic breadth and relevance to local economy and resources. 

Notably, APU also positions itself as much more than a classroom institution: its strategic emphasis includes agricultural enterprise (orchards, fish ponds, poultry), so students can gain hands-on experience beyond lectures. 

In October 2024, shortly after the demise of the founder, APU received its permanent operational licence from the NUC, solidifying its standing as a private university. 

Thus, APU’s history reflects a trajectory: born with regional purpose, starting operations quickly, growing programme offerings, and receiving regulatory validation — all within its first few years of existence. ##Chancellor
The Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University is the founder himself: Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi (note: sometimes referenced as Pro-Chancellor or Chairman of Governing Council). 

Brief Biography:
Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi served as Member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency from 2007 to 2019, and held other public service roles, including chairmanship of the House Committee on Water Resources. 

He is a traditional title-holder (Galadima of Patigi) and is widely regarded as a grassroots mobiliser and education-advocate committed to uplifting his region. His founding of APU is explicitly framed as a response to the educational disadvantage faced by the Nupe community and northern Kwara region.

In his role as Chancellor/Pro-Chancellor, his vision and resource backing help anchor the university’s mission, though the daily academic leadership is handled by the Vice-Chancellor and his team.

##Accreditation and Recognition
Ahman Pategi University is officially recognised and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC). It appears on degree-lists of Nigerian universities as “APU – Patigi, Kwara State.” 

In December 2023, the NUC granted approval for 15 new programmes, indicating active regulatory progress. 

In October 2024, APU received a permanent operational licence from NUC following resource verification, adding credibility to its infrastructure and staffing.
